Insights into the internship experience at R Systems

The R Systems Programming Academy is an annual internship with a history of over ten editions. Each year we are happy to welcome some of the most promising and enthusiastic IT professionals, students and graduates looking to build their careers in the dynamic field of technology and digital transformation.

We provide a series of intensive technical trainings as well as mentorship sessions aimed at guiding our interns’ first steps to a successful IT career. An increasing number of interns join us every year as full time employees so here some of their insights and takeaways from the  2-month experience of learning and working alongside R Systems mentors and experts in Romania, Moldova and Poland.

The overall internship experience

The online academy was new to me. It was very informative, well organized. I managed to learn new things for the next two months. The online organization was very well structured with a good communication of the team. I have enjoyed studying with IT academy great experience. Thanks you so much for everything.
Mihaela Savcenco – 2020 Programming Academy intern, now Junior QA Engineer (Chisinau)
The online academy had two great benefits. First, we were able to record all the sessions and that helped when I needed to review the information again at leisure. Second, we were able to participate alongside our colleagues from Moldova. I’m not sure how this would have been possible, had the academy been in person, so I’m grateful that I got to know more people this way.
Raluca Iancu – 2020 Programming Academy intern, now Junior QA Engineer (Bucharest)
Very intense and very nice. I learned so many things, much more than I had expected when I started, and I really enjoyed it. I liked the fact that the program was adjusted to us and our learning pace.
Ioana Mihai – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bucharest)
My time spent in the academy was one of my most-productive. The knowledge and the skills you get from this experience cannot be compared with anything you do at the university, there‘s nothing like working in a team with a common purpose.
Constantin Pricope –  2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Galati)

Highlights of the internship

I expected that I will learn only more about developing in Java. On Academy we also have learnt using Docker and building REST API, so more things that are required while building app. So for sure Academy met my expectations and was even better.
Kinga Lipiszko – 2020 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bialystok)
There was an instant connection with my team mates from Bucharest. I feel like we were mostly on the same level of energy and curiosity and we helped each other out a lot.
Raluca Iancu – 2020 Programming Academy intern, now Junior QA Engineer (Bucharest)
It was exciting because I was able to build a part of a system which is used by thousands of people. To my mind this is better than hardcoding stuff which no one will ever use.
Patryk Wisniewski – 2020 Programming Academy intern, now  Junior Software Engineer (Poland)
The mentors didn’t just taught us the basics but they gave us a lots of tips & trick, and also they shared their business experience with us. My expectations were exceeded.
Mihai Statie – 2020 Academy intern, now Junior QA Engineer (Bucharest)
I didn’t mind working online, infrastructure for remote work was great. I really liked the DevOps part because that’s when I’ve learned the most.
Norbert Poniatowski – 2020 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Poland)
My favorite part was the opportunity to work alongside such passionate people who are also available and always open to help.
Andreea Grigore – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bucharest)
I liked the training method, how the internship was structured and how we applied what we learned. The biggest challenge was when we all had to develop an application. It was tough but also fun, I liked it a lot how we worked together. It’s a great feeling when things turn out ok.
Matei Mocanu – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bucharest)
The best part was that we applied what we learned in trainings, the overall program was very dynamic. I also liked that we worked in teams and in sprints so in one sprint we had to develop something functional and then build on top of that in the second sprint.
Corina Costea – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bucharest)

Main takeaways

The C Academy has been the highlight of my professional career so far. I had the chance to discover that teamwork means more than a  project shared between some students, it means the responsibility and  the opportunity to “clear the air” and to apply all programming skills. Having this in mind, I can say that the Academy did represent the entry point to this “beautiful programming world”.
Ana Maria Rusu – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Galati)
The Academy helped me improve my communication skills, I learned how to work in a team and how to apply my theoretical knowledge into a real-life project.
Ioana Craciun – 2019 Programming Academy intern from the Faculty of Automatics and Computers, UPB
This experience will help me to better manage a large volume of information. Teamwork is another great experience that I will take with me at the end of this internship.
Paul Ciobanu – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bucharest)
People here are very open and helpful. Our mentors would always explain things while still allowing us to find the solutions ourselves.
Corina Costea – 2019 Programming Academy intern, now Junior Software Engineer (Bucharest)
It was my first work experience in a company. From trainings to actual project work it was all very challenging, I’ve learned a lot in a very short time: programming concepts, teamwork skills, communication, it was all very nice and interesting.
